I had a similar experience when my niece was to be married. I was invited to the wedding but not the reception. Only a jw could present an present an idea like this to you with a straight face. Fortunately the wedding fell through because I wasn't sure how I was going to handle it. I found it very insulting but at the same time very funny.

Do you think that the JW's really care if they bring people to the Org.
by JH ini think that as long as they think they are saved, they really don't care if people listen to them.

Although I preached door to door I didn't want to screw up people's lives if they listened to me and accepted a bible study.
I found this statement very interesting. After I left the witness it dawned on me that there were people I never wanted to become witnesses because I liked them too much the way they were. I think deep down inside I knew the changes they would make to become acceptable to "Jehovah" would make them less happy and more robotic. I guess I never let that thought surface till after I was out but I found it quite shocking when it did surface..

You could call the Watchtower and tell them you found a bunch of mistakes in them and want your money back. I'm sure they won't give your money back but it would be fun asking.

As one who has gone through this with my wife for years I can say I don't think there is a perfect way to handle these situations. Until someone is ready to come out they'll find ways of avoiding thinking about any facts that make them uncomfortable. Still if you have an opening I think it is good to give them something to think about. I remember during one of the arguments I was having with my wife about something the wt taught (this was shortly after I left the watchtower) I suggested she put the wt books away and read nothing but the Bible for a while and see what she comes up with. She blurted out "then I'd wind up like you". She thought about what she said and added "I didn't mean that". Ya gotta love um.

What if they're right?
by LovesDubs indid that mentality keep you in fear and prevent you from leaving?
how many times were we told that the kingdom halls would be our ark and that we needed to keep going to the meetings so that we wouldnt miss the announcement that the great tribulation was beginning and the doors of the ark were closing...even though the bible says nobody knows the day or the hour?
did any of you ever pray for your relatives to die so they would have a ressurection and not be destroyed at armageddon?

I think I must have been slightly insane when I got involved with the Watchtower. Once the insanity wore off there was no place the imaginary kingdom of the witnesses. There is absolutely no chance of them being right. The only way you can believe they are right is by avoiding the facts. If someone has looked at the facts and is still thinking "What if they are right?" It is only because of the damage the WT has done to their brain. I think a big percentage of witness don't really believe it they just have too much invested in it to leave.

The Watchtower only has power over you if you allow it to. Glad you don't allow it Auldsoul.
I think the reason a witness would say the assembly proves the end is near is because they want to believe it is so use anything they can to comfirm this belief. If the assembly is crowded they they say the great increase proves the time is at hand. If not that many show up they say people are not coming because they have hardened their hearts to the truth and that proves the end is near. They do this all the time because the Watchtower uses this type of faulty reasoning all the time.
I want people I know in the WT to come out but at times I do find myself worrying about how some of them would react if they finally woke up. They have put so much in to it. Some would do fine but others I don't think would recover from the blow.

Athanasius did a good job of expressing how I feel. I never accepted be called and apostate by the witness because I believe based on historic Christianity they are the apostates.

Ban cigarette production?
by greendawn ingiven that cigarettes are harmful to health why don't the governments shut down the factories producing them?
it's strange how they tolerate them but not marijuana.
smoking costs a lot of money to the health services of all countries, while the tobacco industries make their profits.

One reason they don't ban them at least in the US is the amount of tax dollars smoking brings in. On one hand they tell people not to smoke on the other hand they are depend on the tax dollars from smokers. Also smokers don't live as long as non-smoker. That means less social security being paid out. The government saves money. I know people say that smokers run up health cost because of the illnesses they contract but that is at the end of their life and the cost of heathcare go up for most people the last few years of their life.
If the government is going to
startcontinue to baby sit us then I think they should outlaw most of the breakast cereals, soft drinks with sugar and most fast food. Have you noticed all overweight children and adults there are these days? These people are also shortening their lives with the poor choices they make but do you really want the gov. making those choices for them or for you? -

The Field Service Numbers Don't Add Up
by Warlock ini took these figures out of the 2006 yearbook:.
total # of hours in field service: 1,278,201,985. total # of peak publishers: 6,613,829. according to my calculations this equals 193.2 hours in field service per publisher, which includes pioneers, special pioneers etc.. no one in our cong.
averages even close to 100 hours, let alone 193.2. can someone please explain this?

I see a lot of witnesses who count time by basically hanging around street corners doing nothing. A few weeks ago I was having a coffee outside at a Starbucks when a couple of young JW girls came giggling up to a table by me put an awake magazine on it and took off. I think a lot of them figure out ways to count time without really having to confront people. I guess I don't blame for doing that. Not everyone is cut out to cram their religion down everyone else's throat.
